The short version
Zirkels is a publishing platform built around rooms, wikis and monetisation — writers earn from what they publish, and the payout mechanics are part of the product rather than bolted on. Built to handle the volume of a content platform and the correctness demands of one that moves money.

How we were involved
The parts of this that were ours to solve.
Monetisation as a first-class object
Most publishing platforms add payments late and discover their content model cannot support them. Here earnings, articles and authors were modelled together from the start, so a payout is a consequence of the content model rather than a separate system reconciling against it.

Rooms, wikis and discovery
Readers arrive for a topic, not a writer. Trending feeds, topic rooms and wikis give the platform several ways in, and give writers an audience that does not depend on them already having one.

Built to scale with the content
A publishing platform's hardest day is its best day. The architecture assumes growth in articles, authors and payouts at the same time, which is a different problem from scaling reads alone.
