How we were involved
The parts of this that were ours to solve.
The domain was the whole problem
Cut flower production has constraints no general farm tool models: frost dates driving succession sowings, varieties that behave nothing like row crops, stem counts rather than weight, and a season that goes from calm to impossible in a fortnight. Building this meant learning the operation properly first — which is why it was built with growers rather than for them.
Planning that starts from the frost date
Succession planning, the variety catalogue and the season plan all hang off the farm's own frost dates and its own history. That is the difference between software a grower configures once and software a grower abandons in week three because it assumes the wrong shape of year.
The record keeping is the payoff
Logging harvests, stem counts and field notes feels like admin in year one. By year two it answers the questions that decide profit: which varieties actually performed, where the season lost money, what to plant more of. The system is designed so the boring input compounds into a real planning advantage.
